ENT AND RHINOGENIC DEAFNESS
Nose, mouth, ears: precious sensory organs, but also important communication channels through which our body opens up to the outside world to receive life, air, sensations and stimuli.
Through these channels, however, impurities also enter our body – such as viruses, bacteria, pollen, dust, noise and environmental pollution – which are responsible for conditions of the otorhinolaryngological system.
The number of respiratory diseases is steadily increasing, mainly due to the worsening environmental situation, including smog, pollutants and active and passive smoking. The various “pathologies” affect both young and old alike.

INHALATION THERAPIES
Thermal inhalation therapies are used and recognised by the healthcare system for their effectiveness in treating respiratory tract conditions and in preventing flare-ups.
Special instruments nebulise the thermal-water particles, transforming them into an effective treatment for acute or chronic conditions involving the upper and lower respiratory tracts.
The therapeutic action is linked not only to the induced thinning of the mucus, but also to the direct anti-inflammatory action on the airway epithelium.
Following inhalation treatment, a reduction in the pathogenic microbial species present in the respiratory tract has also been observed, with a corresponding increase in those that are physiologically resident.
The objectives achievable through inhalation therapies are many:
- Antiseptic and preventive action
- Stimulation of the ciliary system
- Thinning of secretions
- Normalisation of the characteristics of respiratory mucus
- Reduction of the microbiological component
- Inhalation hours: Monday to Saturday, from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

RHINOGENIC DEAFNESS CENTRE
AbanoRitz has its own Rhinogenic Deafness Centre, supervised by a specialist and contracted with the ASL. In addition to inhalations and aerosols, the centre offers endotympanic insufflations, audiological examinations, endonasal washes and earwax plug removal.
Crenotherapeutic Politzer or endotympanic insufflation
This type of treatment is very important for the care of rhinogenic hypoacusis, that is, the loss of hearing due to inflammation of the upper respiratory tract and the early stages of Eustachian tube insufficiency of the middle ear, particularly common in children and adolescents.
Aimed at freeing the Eustachian tube and the tympanic cavity from the secretions that limit hearing capacity, this practice allows the drainage of endotympanic secretions, with aeration of the tympanic cavity and the restoration of the physiological pressure balance between the middle ear and the outer ear.
It involves the introduction of sulphurous thermal water by means of two different methods:
- Politzer: sulphurous water is introduced through the nostrils and reaches the tympanic cavity through an increase in pressure in the middle ear, induced by a series of “guided” swallows.
- Insufflation: water is insufflated directly into the middle ear, in the Eustachian tube, by means of a small probe.
These two types of treatment are performed only by the specialist physician, from Monday to Friday in the morning. Please call or send an email to make an appointment.
Earwax plug removal
This is performed by washing with thermal water, by aspiration, or by mechanical removal, by the specialist physician.
